When do you need a switchboard upgrade?

Your switchboard may need upgrading if it still uses ceramic fuses rather than modern circuit breakers, if it has no residual current devices (RCDs) for safety protection, if you’re adding solar, a battery or an EV charger and your existing board can’t accommodate the additional circuits, if you’re renovating and increasing your electrical load, or if your switchboard is showing signs of damage, overheating or corrosion.

What’s involved?

A switchboard upgrade typically involves replacing the existing board with a modern unit fitted with circuit breakers and RCDs, adding any additional circuits required, and issuing a certificate of electrical safety on completion. All work is carried out to AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules and notified to Energy Safe Victoria.
